I just watched that episode and I didn't think that at all. I felt he was frustrated with how the farmers were treated and didn't know how to deal with it but I felt he had loved her and was nice along the way. I thought it was wrong of her to with hold what was wrong with her, maybe he could have done more to save her life.
Bertha said that the doctor had said that there was nothing that he could do so I don't know what Simon could have done, except get a second opinion.
I didn't like Simon either after they left school together. It became selfish and seemed like he was always putting everything ahead of her and he didn't make her important enough nor a priority. Like when he went off to join the army before his graduation ceremony. He had her and her father travel all the way there to see him graduate and he didn't even have the decency to stay and tell her his plans in person before he just shipped off. He could have joined the army anytime. He didn't have to just up and leave right then without talking it over with her. IDK if I would have waited for him after that because I would have had to come to the realization that my feelings didn't really matter to him. Then after she died, he had the nerve to remarry and expected Alex to call his new wife his mother, like his real mother never existed. If that's not the most disrespectful crap. Of all the insensitive things, especially since Alex was old enough when his mother died that he could still remember her very well. If that don't beat all, his mother hadn't even been dead 5 years when he married his new wife and shipped him off to school to make things more convenient for him and his new wife. I woke up this way...
