1980 vs 1995

I actually really like Lydia best in this production. Visually she is how I pictured her, and she acts just a silly as Lydia in the book. Kitty, however, is waaaay too old. She looks to be older than Lizzie and Jane. It's very distracting.

This is the first time I have seen this version. I still have a love of the '95 version, but this version is growing on me the more I watch it. This Darcy does seem to be more Darcy-like(according to the book); but I still love my Colin Firth!

Did anyone else find Kitty distracting?

Personally, Kitty never bothered me. I never noticed that she looked that much older than she should have. But I hear it from so many people at this board that maybe I'll be on the lookout next time I watch it.

I do know she is unrecognizable in Doctor Who. I'd known she was in a couple of episodes in season 9, but I had to double-check to make sure who she was playing.

i much prefer this version. i like the cast better, and it doesn't add peculiR things - no Mr Darcy jumping in the lake for instance.

I hate that scene with a white-hot passion.

I really like this version--I think it most true to the book (added dialogue here and there very faithful to book's narrative), except for one silly added bit about Mr Collins having a waterproofed hat on Lady Catherine's recommendation.

I find there are things to enjoy about both versions though I do prefer Colin Firth over Rintoul. What bothered me about Rintoul was his voice; it seemed he was muttering under his breath many times instead of having the strong masculine voice you would expect of a rich, important man. Aside from that I liked both Darcys.

I liked Jennifer Ehle's Elizabeth overall but at times she was too rude; such as when she decides after encountering Darcy at Pemberley that she, her aunt and uncle need to leave at once instead of deferring to their wishes as Garvie's Elizabeth does; this is rather outrageous! I liked Garvie's portrayal of Elizabeth but at times I wished they gave her more attractive dresses.

I very much liked the portrayal of Aunt and Uncle Gardner in the 1980 version; you could see they had a happy marriage.

I liked the lady who played Lady Catherine in the 1980 version, but I loved the way the 1995 Lady Catherine was both shocked and amused at Elizabeth's statements at Rosings.

The portrayal of Kitty in the 1980 version was maybe too much like Lydia, which could be distracting and annoying.
