Go on have a drink!

spoilers included!
People who know me know I like British stuff the best, thats why when a lady
at work was given these dvd's as a gift and did't know (or care) what it was she gave them to me. I was gratefull and eager to watch as I was intrigued as to what it could be. I dug on the Doctor Who like effects depicted on the inside of the box, and it even had one of the sexiest Doctor who companions co-starring in it. Little did I know I was about to watch one of the most unintentionally wacky shows I have ever seen. First off you know how when you buy DVD's sometimes they come with some kind of prize with them? Well this box set should have came with a flask that had the omega symbol on it. That would have been very fitting as this show wreaked of booze every time I watched it. Getting secret transmissions from you brother, have some booze, you meet some satanist guy and immediately hate him for no reason, have some booze! He kills your wife, Booze!, secrets, conspiracy, genius scientists, F' it! lets have some drinks! Now let's move on to the characters. First we have Tom Crane sullen, angry and irritable our hero mopes deeper into the storyline. The only time Tom Crane seemed happy was when engaged in argument with the always grinning Roy Martindale. Why was he always grinning like that? In one scene he's explaining to Tom that his brothers brain had been fried by some device that had to have come directly from the set of Doctor Who, without once looking sympathetic but rather maintaining the silly grin the whole time. For this reason Roy was my favorite character on the show, who could not like someone who smiles that damm much. He was a cool breeze compared to any of the other dour characters populating this world of The Omega Facter. Now part of one of the main points of intrigue with this show is that one of the characters was in reallity one of the bad guys, but who could tell when everyone was always down right mean to each other. This brings us to the boss, Scott Erskine this guy looks like the grimreaper on depressants. In charge and always aloof Erskine appeared to be the perfect baddy. All the tables are set except for some sexual tension enter Dr. Anne Reynolds. She provides even more excuses for Tom and Roy to argue just for good times. In one of my favorite scenes Roy sits in the flat of Anne trying his best to impress Anne with his intellect when Tom comes bursting in and completly shuts him down with one of the best cock-blocking moves ever commited to film.Other than that Anne serves the purpose of saying "Oh Tom Roy is ok, Why must you fight with him so?" Also about Anne whose decision was it to take this beauty and dress her in the most frumpy clothes they could find. (with the exeption of the ep where her and Tom went to the disco). Out of every episode my very favorite one is called St.Anthony's Fire I laughed so hard during this ep. Starting out with some slapper throwing water on her breasts and freaking out, after which she promptly murders someone. After the usual brisk argument with Roy, Tom goes out to investigate. Anne soon meets him there and they proceed to start drinking. Then some chick lays over Tom and attempts to kill Anne. Her penalty for attempted murder of Tom's girl..... She has to go to Tom's hotel room, and, you guessed it have some drinks with him. MMM but wait Tom is already engaged in drinking with some Doctor who previously would not give Tom any information, but now that he was good and sloshed he's all ready to tell everything he knows. Oh Oh OH! Can't forget my favorite scene from the whole damm series. HAHAHAHAH! Tom goes down to the pay phone just to call Roy (whose already pissed off) when Roy answers Tom just kinda makes these groaning sounds and does not speak to Roy at all. Even more pissed off now Dr. Martindale slams the receiver down in disgust. That's it! this scene made no sense what so ever. Boy did a laugh though! Back to the other scene. After everyone gets tanked up in there hotel rooms they all meet up at the hotel bar to really start drinking. After the inn keeper play a soothing song on the piano, what looks like a punk band gets up to play. Before that can happen however some dude freaks out, and a very inncoherent bar fight breaks out. In an action scene where I have no idea what the hell happened someone gets hurt. He is sent to the hospital where he is to have surgery done by the drunk doctor. Before the doctor can do the surgery though he meets up with Tom, and they drink some liquor together. HHHAHAHAHAH

Good thing I took this whole series as funny or else I'd have a million questions. Like....
What did Tom's brother due when not part of the storyline?
What the hell was happening in Michael's hospital room in the ep "Powers of Darkness"?
What happened to the kid with physic powers?
What became of Morag?
Who and why was someone walking around dressed as Tom's wife?
Why was the only likable character the bad guy?
Did they blow the whole of the budget on Pink Floyd songs?
And just in general WTF!

In the end the conclusion is just as much a downer as everything else that happens on this show. Erskine--DEAD! Martindale---Mind control slave! Tom leaves Anne to go back to London for more moping about I imagine.

Good Cop, Bad Cop,,,, INSANE SLUG COP!!!!!

The title of this thread really is on point. They drink an absolutely insane amount on this show. I am pretty sure that I saw Martindale drinking scotch in his office first thing in the morning, and proper Anne constantly knocking them back even while at work. Did people really drink that much in the 70s in Edinburgh, or was it a tic of the writers? I have to say that is more mysterious to me than the generally weak paranormal stuff.

Yes, indeed--it's like 50s american movies where everybody smokes acres of tobacco. But....most of the time, the Omega characters don't FINISH their drinks. a couple of sips, then it's off to do..something.

Yes: I suspect people in that time and place did drink a bunch--considering the climate and the Kirk and all.
