This Series Beats the Current Sci-Fi Live Action!

After watching the live-action version on Sci-Fi (which sucks by the way) - I really really miss this excellent version.

The Sci-Fi Channel would have done better to just re-air this series.

I knew the new Flash Gordon would suck the moment I saw the commercial of it. Of course, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that Sci-Fi produces garbage to begin with.

This cartoon series (first season anyhow) is the best rendition of Flash Gordon since the comic book originals.

OK, so what's the speed of dark?

Totally agree. I was more excited and intrigued just watching two minutes of this animated series on youtube.com (I remember the original, of course- showing my age) than 3 hours of the NEW Sci-Fi version. But what can you say about a network that CANCELS the most visually brilliant and best written sci-fi series in ages, "Farscape", in favor of cheap to produce series like "Stargate" (sorry "Stargate" fans, but you know it's true) and an actual *beep* series of "Tremors"? "TREMORS" for God's sake! Well, at least the new Sci-Fi "Flash Gordon" seems to have gotten the old classic 1980 film released to Region 1, so it at least has served some purpose. As for the 1979 cartoon series, it's next on my DVD list, so I can enjoy further REAL, FUN to watch adventures of Flash & gang!

The terrible 1950s show was better than the Sci-Fi original. Actually no, that's not quite fair. The Sci-Fi series did eventually grow on me, and it improved significantly just as it came to a close. The problem was that it started out cartoonish (and not in the same way that THIS show was a cartoon) and they deviated so far from the original material that it barely bore any resemblance to Flash Gordon. I can't believe they thought fans of the earlier incarnation would openly embrace the changes. I will give them credit for Rankol, who was a great original character, but Ming wasn't at all the commanding "Merciless" presence he should have been and reducing Zarkov to a simpering buffoon was pretty hard to swallow at first.

While I have no doubt the cartoon would easily trump a sci-fi version, After all look what they did to my beloved Battlestar; I find it odd that I didn't even know there was a sci-fi version! Did they consider advertising it? I even used to tune in to sci-fi from time to time. Unless they just called it Flash or something and I maybe thought they were redoing The Flash...
