This show is awesome! Where is everyone?

I thought this board would be happening, we all group up on Monkey and his adventures. His battles with demons and monsters; the fat lazy swine Pigsy...oh well...those days are lost forever....

I loved Monkey's flying cloud, If I rememeber correctly Pigsy was cast out of heaven for stealing, not sure about Sandy the fish guy.

yeah i loved the show, why did they change the guy who played pigsey?
and why did they reffer to the woman in the show as a man?

"Why am I Mr. Pink?"

reply

The woman was supposed to be a man - the male priest was played by a female actor, I guess for the pureness and youth the priest was supposed to have.

Hey so there ARE still some Monkey fans out there...sweet...

To moral, The original Pigsy had signed a contract to star in another show after the first season, which he could not get out of, so he had to leave and they replaced him. I think he changed his mind but couldn't get out of it. A shame really. He was my favourite. The 'more human' pigsy just didn't have it.

i liked the tall guy with the funnt eyes

did anyone see the episode where the guy tried to steal the wishing star for his step-son that was brilliant

"Why am I Mr. Pink?"

reply

pigsy was thrown out of heaven for being drunk and trying to get frisky with star Vega. Sandy was thrown out because the jade cup was broken which he was responsible for.

I love this show, it's so retro and fabulous, i'm 16 and i'm the only person in my school who knows this show, a shame really

What i find really sad is that a few years ago, i heard that Masaaki Sakai was a Karaoke singer in a downtown bar in Tokyo.

Sakai-san (Maasaki Sakai) is doing quite well these days. He regularly hosts the big, annual New Year's Eve show in Japan.

He also hosts a weekly television show. I did not have a chance to see it. It was explained to me as a show that researches how top chefs prepare meals. Sakai-san then invites several celebrities on his show, and cooks the same meals for his guests.

He also still performs live concerts as a musician. While I don't know how many, I know that he recently traveled from Tokyo to Korea, to star in a live show there.

I was lucky enough to be one of the audience members yesterday, while he was taping some segments for the 2004 New Year's special that will air in a few weeks.

I was not familiar with his work before. Someone told me that he had starred in "Monkey Magic." That's how I found this board.

Its the greatest children's programme ever filmed. Have to say that the actor who played monkey was fantastic. He had more than a touch of the ape about his features. Over all, the group of actors who played Monkey, Pigsy, Sandy and Tripitaka seemed to be made for the parts. Its funny, for a show that seemed to be so brutal at times, it didn't really glamourise the violence. Monkey was constantly rebuked for hurting or attempting to kill anyone, even when Masters life was in danger.

I loved this show as a kid and found it surprisingly as enjoyable when watching it again 15 years later! Not many "kids" shows can do that!

It had a great mix of humour, fantasy, fighting and great storylines. I hope they can live up to it with the remake!

yeah its cool, im 20 and started off watching this by watching the cartoon.

I used to watch it back in the early 80's and I still enjoy it now just as much. its a classic show with morality in every episode, instead of the tripe which passes for entertainment today.
