Season 2 Pigsy

Does everyone else agree that the Pigsy in Season 2 was a bit crap, and that Toshiyuki Nishida, and whoever did the English dubbed voice, was awesome and deserves some kind of medal?

A spoon's main purpose is for conveying food to the mouth.

reply

Yes I agree. But remember of course that "Peter Woodthorpe" dubbed both pigsys. Also he is the actor that played del & rodneys father in one episode of "only fools and horses".

That's who did the voice of Pigsy eh? nice to know that, thanx pal

Season 2's Pigsy got chosen because the original had signed on for a different TV show at the time. As apparently NONE of the cast of Monkey knew or even thought there would ever be a second season. And the show Pigsy (from season one) signed on with conflicted with the filming of the second season of Monkey. So they had to find some one else. I dont mind the second Pigsy, he isn't that bad. The content of the show was still the same and that's what matters to me most - well that and they had Masaaki Sakai still playing MONKEY!!!!

Season 2 pigsy was so camp in comparison; he realy played it over the top. But i think that fit the show better than the first Pigsy (have you seen the colour scheme for most episodes?) and so i think he's, if anything, better for the role.

Yeah I was never a big fan of Pigsy mark 2 back in the day, but I imagine that's as much because he just wasn't the original Pigsy anymore as anything else. And those kind of changes, especially when you don't know why they happened at the time, can throw an audience through a bit of a loop.

I just got the two seasons of Monkey to watch for the first time in many, many years, so It'll be interesting on just how I feel about the second Pigsy knowing ahead of time that such a change is to come, and whether that affects my viewing and perception any.

I'm also looking forward to watching those 13 episodes that I never got to see from back in the day...

Been watching all the series again, now well into the second season, episode 7 actually, and I really miss the original Pigsy, he put most of the humor into the show and loved his love for women, food, and laziness and in the final episode of Season 1, after his sister was murdered it was very touching.

I just still failing to accept the new pigsy, I'm glad the show gives a mention that he "is changing", due to the obvious change of actor. But changing is okay but personality insist, I don't find this Pigsy very funny, and he seems to lack personality. I'm surprised that the others just don't suspect him as a imposter.

reply

This is hilarious! I can just imagine Sandy looking down his long nose and say "Pigsy, you are an imposter!"

"great minds think differently"

reply

Oooh, interesting info laurence re Peter Woodthorpe. I'm going to use that for bonus trivia points next time Monkey comes up in a convo with the mates.

Nice one! ;)

reply

Replacing Sandy would of been a better option.

reply

I think the original Pigsy was just so fantastically suited to the role and such a joy to watch. He was always going to be a big loss and whoever replaced him was always going to be on a loser.

I think the fact the characters in Monkey were so unique probably didn't help either. It made the actors all the more integral to their parts, and harder to replace. We should probably just be thankful Pigsy was the only one replaced. His loss might have been huge but imagine how much worse a new actor as Monkey would have been.

NNooooooOoooooooOooooooooo.

reply

You make it sound like the actor died, I'm happy to say he did not pop his clogs but a shame he didn’t return for season 2, Pigsy (1) - my favourite character! 🐷

reply

Yeah Pigsy 2 was nowhere near as camp as Pigsy 1. It just wasn’t the same 👎
