do you ever see er indoors?

been watching it for a while and there's no proof he's married.

reply

Nope. There is one episode where you hear her opening the curtains and shutting the door in their bedroom but that's about it. She's a hidden character like Captains Mainwaring's wife in Dad's Army.

The world is your lobster.

been watching it for a while and there's no proof he's married.

I'm sure, there was an episode where we finally got to see 'er indoors; It was like the unveiling of Lady Diana's Spitting Image puppet, loads of press coverage, etc.

reply

I like the way they never show her, it lets you come to your own conclusions as to who she is

reply

I do think the show missed a trick at the end of its run.
Her indoors should have made a cameo appearance in the last episode.
The question is who should have played her. It should be a big name.
I thought the obvious choice would be June Whitfield, but she had already appeared in an earlier episode so it couldn't have been her.

reply

Actually when they made the last episode, there was no indication that was every going to be the last.

Feeling was it had lost its better days and would go the way of Only Fools and Horses with gaps of 2/3 years with a feature length special/2-3 series showing etc.....

So to put her in the last episode would mean it was over completely, but I think everyone involved felt that a break would be a good thing and come back stronger at a later date.

reply

I agree - better to leave her to the viewers' imaginations!

reply

Saw her back! Helping herself to the buffet, in the first of the Ray Daley episodes.

reply

She could have been was one of the women shown in the opening credit snap shots standing with Arthur and Terry. As it is highly unlikly that Arthur would be seen courting any other female company like that, specially in Terry's presense.

reply

why would he pretend to be marred if he is not? There are plenty of indications that he is. for instance, in the episode where he thinks he's dying and says to Terry 'look after er indoors" why would he bother to do that if there was no er indoors?

reply

Also the episode where she goes missing (and Dave talks to her on the phone IIRC)

reply

Yes, and then there's 'From Fulham with Love' in which Arthur gives a job to er indoors's gormless nephew, and we see her fearsome sisster at the end.

reply

She's never seen, but her sister is in one episode.

reply

She spent most of her time hanging out with Mrs. Columbo.
