Anybody find the torture scene disturbing?

I remember this when I was 10 years old and I still can't get over the torture scene when they were beating this young lady.
You know being 10 years old and everything I wanted to see "action"but it came so instantly I was disturbed by this scene.
Along with the headline question I want to know:
1.Who was that young lady?
2.Does she die?

The torture scene, with water torture was very disturbing.
