Thanks! My thoughts on this episode are simple- it's WRITTEN as a drama, but DIRECTED as a thriller/horror. This caused the episode to be kind of schizoid in it's execution. Think about it- Ginger as written is worried about the odd gifts she's getting (flowers, et al) yet as directed, she becomes full on hysterical while creepy and fast paced music plays. Mama's boy Arthur, the horny cop, the janitor, all those characters are played up to creepy by the director, when really they do little that is threatening, with the exception of the cop hugging Ginger.

If this episode had been DIRECTED as the drama it was meant to be, it would have been received much better. I think because it was so poorly liked by the audience, the producers thought it was a reflection of how the audience felt about Ginger, which was unfortunate. It was poorly liked because it's a crappily directed episode.
