Mary Robison

The Mary Robison storyline, which was in either the last or second to the last season, is one i vaguely remember. She claimed she was Laura's mother and wanted to get custody of Meg or at least have visitation rights. I know it was later revealed that she and her brother were working for Nigel Treadway to get the Mackenzie's out of the Summer Group so he(Treadway) could eventually take over. Was Mary really Laura's mother, and if she really was, how is that so, considering she and Laura looked to be the same age?

reply

Laura was adopted. Mary claimed to be her biological mother. It was later discovered Laura's bio-mom had died in childbirth and Mary was actually the bio-mom's sister running a con job.

Thanks. I just found it impossible that producers would cast a middle aged woman to portray Laura's mother.

Yes good points.

There is only 5 years between the two actresses.

I thought this (along with "Sally's Friend") was one of the worst storylines ever on this show. Just terrible.

I thought it was an interesting premise when it first started but it kind of lost its way. The writes did some retcon in the final season to make it fit with the Sumner Group takeover. Mary showed up before Val was kidnapped, but in season, they made it seem like Mary was somehow involved/behind Val's kidnapping.

I agree. I thought the writers switched gears to tie Mary to the Treadwell business. Exactly what was the explanation about how Mary was involved? I don't remember. It all made no sense. However, as I disliked the Mary plot so much, I was just glad that she was gone.

reply

The explanation was that Mary and her brother Joe were recruited by Treadwell to get Mack and Karen's shares of Sumner Group. EXCEPT that Mary and Joe arrived on the scene BEFORE Sumner gave Mack and Karen the shares.
