his my name is colin and i've read what you said about tom sawyer and huck finn.
the series huckleberry finn and his friends was shown on the bbc in england during the six week summer holidays in the early 80's when i was a teenager. it really is a fantastic version, which was 26 episodes long lasting about 11 hours in total. i don't think it has been released on video or dvd yet, i have tried to find it for myself. could you tell me if you have had any luck in tracking it down? i'll let you know if i find out anything else, i might try writing to the bbc or the german production company for some help, i know they released a short version 92 minutes long in german! it is available on amazon. if this is any help please let me know, but they must have edited it a hell of a lot to get it down from 11 hours to 92 minutes so i think i'll hold out for the dvd box set!

I remember watching this in the UK as a kid, but unlike the above comment and one of the reviews, I distinctly remember it as an afternoon show (Thursdays at 4:30-ish rings a bell). I remember going on a school trip and missing the very last episode! I think we're talking 1984 here. I would imagine any summer holiday showing would have been a little later.

I also remember ITV showing it a few years later, but I can't remember whether that was a 5pm weekday slot or Saturday lunch-time. Possibly both.

Hi, my name is Eddy Riley from England, and I am also very keen to get the whole series of "Huckleberry Finn and his Friends" on either DVD or VHS. I really enjoyed watching this series as a child in the 1980's and would like my young family to also see it. If you find a source, please reply to this e-mail. Thanks.

Isnt it strange that this series is impossible to find? If you look on Ebay you can find copies of absolutely everything from classics as Greatest american hero to Band of Brothers, Oz and so on..but this series is gone with the wind.

I´ve been collecting tv-series and movies for about 15 years and I have never ever met or heard of anyone who has a single episode of this fantastic series on vhs.

If anyone finds it, please reply.
/Cheers R.

Same as all you guys - I watched it on BBC and have missed it ever since. I once was in email contact with a guy who had 13 episodes on VHS. He wanted to charge me £25 for one video so i told him to shove it up his arse. There's a yahoo group for Sammy Snyders and there's been some discussion about a DVD release on it - that was over a year ago. I'm just gonna' sit around and wait for it. They must release it on DVD eventually. Musn't they?! THEY MUST!!! Oh, and the theme song is a great 'fond memory recaller' - and not too hard to download form some sites.

"He needs WOLF POWER, or he will explode in a shower of pulped yams."

i'm looking back more on days that were slower, when living was easy an neighbours were friends.
cheers for that, i'll check out the yahoo group while waiting like yourself.

In Australia, in the week before Christmas the FOUR omnibus versions of SOME of the episodes are due to be re-screened on the Hallmark Pay Tv channel. They are Huch Finn and the Pirates, Huck becomes a victim, Huch and the Buried Treasure and the Adventures of Tom Sawyer. They are each around 90 mins in length. I used to have access to Pay Tv but don't anymore, so if you have a friend in Australia they may be able to tape them for you but they are to be put on at odd times 2am and 6:30 am the next day. Be aware that I have heard the operators over here have a system whereby those who try and tape the series get a distorted sound playback on their videos! There would be probably be about thirteen of the episodes combined in these four telemovies. Hallmark have said that there are NO plans to offer this series on DVD in AUSTRALIA, so you might be lucky elsewhere. However, the prospect of finding someone who taped the series from 1979 and still has copies would I imagine be very unlikely, unless of course they choose to still post here. I'm amazed that Ian Tracey is still doing films as his bio attests!

1) The boat is a paddleboat.

2) I'm curious if this is the one where they did a great retellling of the the two books, or if there were two separate series...

Thanks!

jamaisj, both books were filmed as one series here. The first few episodes were direct from Tom Sawyer, then Huck and Jim's story took over and Tom disappeared until the last few episodes. It was endless, it was shown every summer for years and I always seemed to end up watching the whole thing.

This series is available on Lovefilm now .
