I only remembered one plot from this, one scene

Some character is having their eyes examined at an optician's, and a test involves them putting their face up to some equipment that covers their eyeballs with cups, but before the test takes place, another character notices spikes in the cups that would've blinded them had the test taken place.

That's all I remember from this show, aside from the gravelly-voiced older guy who, I heard, was a legend.
