Yes, this is a goulish question.

Does anyone know which episode was the first FILMED (not released) after Natalie Wood's death?

reply

I was wondering the same thing. Natalie Wood died in Nov 1981, so Hart to Hart was in its 3rd season at that point, at the peak of its popularity.

According to Robert Wagner's book, they had just finished filming in Hawaii when they took their fateful trip to Catalina. Episodes 14 and 15 of season 3 were shot in HI. If they shoot them in order, episode 16 would be the first episode shot after Natalie Wood's death.

If Episode 16 is, in fact, the first one, then this is pretty interesting to me. "Blue & Broken Harted" is the episode --> http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0597210/. In my review, I don't make any mention of art imitating life or emotion beyond the 4th wall, and I do look for that stuff. I do recall a very well done, emotional fight they'd staged as part of their investigating, but the fight, itself, was really emotional, even if they were faking it. Emotion feeds off emotion, and so some of RJs may have been feeding his performance, but this is not an ep that made obvious that Natalie had just died. Knowing this, however, I'm going to go back and watch it.

I've often wondered this, myself. If the above poster is correct, it is interesting to note the title of this episode... "Blue and Broken-Harted". How sad for the both of them. All these years later and I still can't believe the tradgedies they both faced at the exact same time. Just awful :(

I always thought the next episode after the one in Hawaii was Ex Wives can be Murder about max's ex coming to town. Or maybe that was when William Holden died. What a weird set of circumstances. Could you imagine that if that all happened in this age of the internet all the stories and inuendo? I still feel horrible they both had to go through that.

The episode, under production at the time of Natalie Woods death, was Hart of Diamonds. I have a newspaper clip of RJ Wagner, returning to work on the set, with Stephanie Powers and the actress, that played Lily Von Borg, the woman who was using hypnosis, on Jennifer, to become a jewelry thief!

This is actually one of my very favorite episodes. There's a ton of emotion here, especially on Jonathan's part. When he follows Jennifer and gets her out of the house she's robbing, he's alot more aggressive about it than in other episodes. If this is the episode they were in the middle of filming, then I can see how the emotion may have manifested within it.
