How much could the girls have had?

After the fire, Mrs. Garrett said she didn't have enough money to rebuild her store.

Then the girls all come forward with their insurance checks and suddenly there is enough money.

Did the girls have thousands of dollars worth of stuff in their room? It looked like all the had was the furniture and their clothes!

reply

I imagine Blair probably provided the lion's share. The others just added what they had available.

reply

I think Natalie and Tootie also came from some money. They weren't there on scholarship. The only one who probably got a pass was Jo.

reply

Yeah, but Natalie and Tootie didn't seem to have the kind of money Blair had.

Most likely, most of the girls in the boarding school were from somewhat affluent families, or they could not afford to go there.

But there always seemed to be a distinction that Blair was the "rich girl" of the bunch.

reply

Jo was really the only poor one of the group.

reply

I know that. But it did seem that Blair was richer than the others, from certain conversations. Or maybe just a lot more spoiled than the others.

reply

I think it was being more spoiled....she was the one who publically talked about her wealth the most. Natalie probably did not care. She after all was going to be a writer, which yes I understand is hit or miss re people themselves being wealthy. Ditto for Tootie and acting. Meanning they were going to live off of family resources until they themselves independently made it.

reply

Jo looses her scholarship--and Blair specifically was the one with the family foundation to come through. Tootie and Natalie have money for themselves to stay in school and feel bad for her they do not tease her at all but cannot pay for their friend. They can only stay in school themselves.

So yes Blair is filthy rich while Natalie and Tootie are just comfortable.
