picture quality of boxset

I originally picked these up when they were first issued in the uk on single discs & although just happy to have the series initially, the pic quality on them is not particularly good with colour fading & flecking. Is the boxset any better?

reply

Whilst I don't think they have been digitally re mastered. The picture quality does seem to have been cleaned up with no fading or flecking on the box set.

I've had the set on 5 videos since the late 1990s. The picture quality is not perfect. It is a bit fuzzy and the colour isn't really good. I've been wanting to get it on DVD. Is the DVD better quality? I've watched it 10-15 times, so I've become accustomed to the graininess

I'm not certain what you mean by "boxset"?

A set of all the episodes in a box with a documentary extra as opposed to the single discs(with no extras apart from photos) which were originally released in the uk(now deleted)-.One of the episodes(think it was silver lining) was practically b/w so it seems the "boxset" has corrected this problem-thanks for the info DB.

Thanks, Khazi! It seems that you are referring to DVD (discs)? rather than to videos - and what was released in the UK rather than here in the US. I'm wanting to order the DVD set here in the US. Ought I to look for a set with the documentary extra? Is it available here? Thanks for whatever enlightenment you can give me.

Do all of the DVD sets come with documentaries? Or is it only this one because of the historic value?

Thanks!

There is a region 1 dvd boxset available in the states but i`m not sure if it`s got any extras-the u.k. rg2 boxset has a few public information films & a documentary about bomb disposal. Please be aware though that uk dvd`s will not work on your player unless it`s multi region & can handle the Pal signal which we use over here-go to amazon.com which should provide more info.

I have the box set and am watching it now. Picture quality is very good. Extras are a History channel "Bomb Squad" episode, and "award winning Series SUICIDE MISSIONS" Haven't seen either yet.

Great series and Hawkesworth does his usual fine job as he did with the Sherlock Holmes series.

Well worth the price.

The quality it better than average, it has a well produced bomb squad documentry from the history channel...the only fault I find with this DVD set is "no subtitles"

reply

"No subtitles" I purchased several British series on DVD that do not have subtitles BUT they are close-captioned. Is Danger UXB close-captioned? Thanks

reply

Late reply but no, there are no subtitles on my region 2 dvd box set

"Everbody in the WORLD, is bent"

reply

I rented it from Netflix (in the US), and those discs have no subtitles nor are they closed-captioned.

It's been issued three times in the UK to date.

Thefirst issue as four individual discs was fullframe but not remastered.

The second issue, as a 5-disc set from Anchor Bay, was remastered - but in the wrong ratio, with the episodes cropped to 1.9:1,losing a lot of detail. This set included several good wartime documentaries on the bonus disc.

The third and best issue is the Network DVD issue which has all episodes remastered in the origginal fullframe, with commentaries on 4 episodes and a doc on the making of the show (but not the WW2 docs from the Anchor Bay set). This has the best picture quality but no subtitles. It can usually be found fairly cheap.

2010 box set is superb quality. Best of any UK series I've watched.
