LOCATIONS

If its of interest to anyone i worked on the first two episodes as my friend supplied all the vehicles for the series.
I mantained the motorcycles for him that were used .
the first episode was filmed at a 1930s council estate just of Mitcham Common and at a school on the south side of Clapham Common which was also the HQ of the film company for the series. I also taught Marice Roeves how to ride a motorcycle here as he had only ridden a scooter before. But when it came to the filming a double was used in the riding scenes, bike was a 350 cc WG Royal Enfield.

second episode was filmed at St Katherines docks near Tower Bridge before they were demolished.

Thank you for that! I have just got the boxset and was wondering about the locations. Do you know where Lt. Ash's digs were?

I recognise the street scenes in 'Butterfly Winter' as being filmed around the Cotswold town of Stow On The Wold in Gloucestershire and I'm pretty sure the theatre/billet scenes were shot in the theatre in nearby Chipping Norton,Oxfordshire.
Also I think Chipping Norton was used for the location of the scene where the body of L/Cpl Salt is removed from a house after being killed by a butterfly bomb.

Not sure which church was the location for the removal of a butterfly bomb and Salts funeral but presumably it would be somewhere around the North Cotswolds area also.

Yes it is of interest and I wish they had a 'filming locations' listing for this one. Thanks for what you guys said.

I remember one afternoon filming was taking place near my school near Myatts Fields park Kennington. A lot of us kids were watching filming and making a bit of noise as kids do to the annoyance of the film crew.

John, that's an amazing reminisce from a much-admired/remembered series!
