these days i'm watching the reruns on italian tv...i looove this anime!
the last episodes are the best..oscar and andré are more and more beautiful,the only thing is becoming more and more difficult to say:"who is the man???"
when i was a little kid,i studied the french revolution watching this classic
i love this anime too! i almost cried in the last episodes. oscar and andré made a beautiful pair. at first i was sorry because they were only together once, such a little time but then that makes the story more beautiful.

yes, it was a great romance. when i was little japanese animes were full of love and pain and sadness until you had to cry from the beginning to the end of each episode (i'm talking about shows like "candy candy"....), while today they try to be as funny and silly as possible

I'm gonna tell you my interesting theory about the symbolic value of "hair"in this anime.
In this anime, hair--->age.
Both Marie Antoinette and Oscar, as young girls, had short curls (of course, Marie Antoinette's more girlie, with a big ribbon on top of her head..)
The older the carachters grow, the longer the hair grows! Luis XVI had only one ringlet on every ear when he was young; then the ringlets become 2 and then 3..
This is also valid for men's wigs..The wig of Luis XV (the old man par excellence)is enormous, imposing, with a profusion of reglets.
Did you ever notice that???
(I love writing these absurdities ).But this theory is truly based on scrupulous observation!!
I also have a more serious question.
The title of the anime is "The rose of Versailles".
To whom is it referred to? Oscar or Queen Marie Antoinette?
The Queen was known as "the rose of Versailles", and in some episode they refer to her with this "nickname".
So, maybe the real main carachter of the story is the Queen..she's present in almost every episode, maybe we see the story trough the eyes of Oscar, but it's Queen M.A.the actual heroine.

Yeah i noticed that too!! Andre is young he wears that ponytail, then when he's older. Even his face kinda changed with the new haircut.They don't have wrinkles, they have hair!!
haha i love pointing those things out too. Oscar has the most obvious hair since he started with it almost shoulder-lenght and it grew almost to her ass. hehehe
The Rose is Oscar. In the last episode (or the one before last, i dunno) Rosalie brings a rose made of silk that Marie Antoinette did before she died and she says that the rose was like Oscar, that it would never die.
And there's also another episode, can't remember which, that Oscar is compared to a rose too. And since all the roses in the pictures go around Oscar, i figured it has to be her.
I think both, M.A. and Oscar are the heroines. Because during the story they kinda complete each other. You know, the title of the anime here is "Lady Oscar" so i first thought the story was all around her. X)

wow i love you guyz! im so glad that im not the only one who still remembers lady oscar!!! and yeah u guyz are right about new animes now, most of them are about some stupid crietures trying to kill each other , but candy candy and lady oscar are the best animes( manga) i've ever seen , i own all candy candy dvds and two lady oscar dvds and i never got to see the end, does she die?? i know u guyz havent write anything since february but if one of u guyz get to read this and knows what happens to oscar plz let me know hehehehe byex

sharei watched this anime when i was about 8 or 9 yrs old and it has remained my favourite anime ever since have been looking around for the DVD and manga series for years. Does anyone know where to get it?? The love between Oscar and Andre is so beautiful and unforgettable !! I love them!
