Benson is back on TV...on FamilyNet!

Benson is in a daily lineup on FamilyNet. It started Monday, November 30th and will air 2 episodes Monday-Saturday. Good news!!!

Just watched it. Yay!

I know I saw it on TV the other day. Its great to see some different re-runs on TV hopefully other networks will pick up more re-runs.

I realized it was on just in time to catch a couple of my favorite episodes. And it looks like they didn't butcher them the way TV Land and Antenna TV did.

reply

For some weird reason, Antenna never aired them in my area. They ran promos for the show, but then filled the time slot with episodes of Father Knows Best. I don't get FamilyNet, so I'll likely have to go the DVD route if I want to catch the show again.

It's nice seeing it again, I have the first 2 seasons on dvd. I've only seen seasons 3-7 on TVLand back when they played it and then only once per episode

reply

How did they butcher it?

reply

FamilyNet seems to be omitting all of the last season and almost all of the 2nd to last season unfortunately.

As for butchering, I think TVLand did its usual removal of about 4 minutes per episode to get it down to 21 minutes. I think all FamilyNet does is remove the short final scene

Yeah, I was so excited when TV Land started showing Benson some years back, until I realized how badly they were chopping the episodes up (just as you describe).

I've written to Shout! Factory and literally asked them to 'rescue' this show with a Complete Series release the way they have done (their releases are outstanding) with other shows (see: Barney Miller, The Jeffersons, etc.)

Frustrating, as Mill Creek currently has the rights to Benson and they're (at this point) doing nothing with them.

I'm still hoping Shout! manages to release it one day.

Wait a minute... who am I here?

reply

Thank you....hope they do finally release it. I think plenty of people have been waiting long enough.
