The duel between the master swordsmen

someone explain to me how he got killed please. After the cut he sees Yagyu's body cut in two.. then it's a statue.. and then he dies? I didn't get it.

reply

This is common in East Asian martial arts, sword plays.
Yagyu's skills were greater than the monk's.
Yagyu was so fast that the monk was deceived into slashing the statue as if it was Yagyu when he had already finished his moves: move in close and deliver a killing blow to the monk then move back behind the statue.

Think of it as a bullet time.

This is common enough in Far Eastern myth and fiction, yes: Yagyu's swordskills are presented as being so superior they are practically supernatural. The duel thus contains the mystical elements you see in the film.
