"We just cut up our girlfriend with a chainsaw. Does that sound fine?"- Evil Ash (Evil Dead II)

Funny how nobody mentions there's many things in this film also on "Evil Dead II" as well. Of course there's all the stuff with possessed Ash, and also the woman with knife accidentally stabbing a guy coing in the door (thinking it's Evil Ash). Also, if you ever get the chance to see the short film "The Helping Hand", which is about the Hamburger Helper hand coming to life chasing a woman around, you'll notice a lot of the same scenes are in "Evil Dead II" when Ash is chasing around the severed hand (putting in under the bucket with the book on top; the hand giving the finger; etc etc). It's made by one of Sam Raimi's friends (Scott Becker, etc or might have been made by Sam himself, don't rememer) and has Sam Raimi playing the milkman. Also interesting is how it also foreshadows the film "Trilogy of Terror" with the little voodoo doll running around chasing the woman in her apartment. In fact "The Helping Hand" likely foreshadows a bunch more films including "Child's Play". And of course the Pillsbury Doughboy comes to life at the end.

I got my copy of "Within the Woods" off eBay, first on VHS, and later on VCD. Both the VHS and VCD had several other shorts, trailers and commercials featuring Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell as well. They both had the same shorts except for one. The VHS has a short where a guy tries to cross the street to get to a woman, but everytime he tries too, a thousand cars come flying down the street (like in old cartoons). The VCD, instead of that, has one called "6 Months To Live" where Bruce Campbell diagnosis Sam Raimi as having only 6 months left to live, so he he can do whatever he wants. After Raimi gets himself into loads of trouble, Campbell tells him he actually isn't gonna die.

Good stuff if you wanna see the old films Sam & Bruce made. Mainly it's a lot of cartoonish, Three Stooges-type films, and then of course old trailers for Evil Dead, XYZ Murders etc, and a commercial Raimi filmed with Bruce Campbell for a radio station.

Also, look up Sami Raimi on eBay as well, because Within in the Woods generally isn't sold alone. It's included with the other short films and goes under various titles including "The Short Films of Sam Raimi", "Within the Woods and Other Short Films", etc. So if searching for "Within the Woods" doesn't work, try looking for Sam Raimi and you may find the DVD/VCD with his short films on it, which likely included "Within the Woods." If you don't see anything in any searches, just keep trying every couple days or once a week or something until you find someone selling it.

A couple years ago I downloaded it off of Bearshare. It was a pretty cool flick. I tried burning it to a cd and i was actually able to save the audio. So i can pop it in the cd player whenever i want to and listen to the sounds. I think i might try that tonight, i haven't listened to it in a while.
