This has been done on so many movies, but why not this great comedy?

Beecham: "He said to go in."
Robby: "Is that what he said?"
Beecham: "Not exactly."

"My God Max! You've gotten even fatter. You look like the Hindenburg! Have you seen a doctor?"

"How's that company of yours: American Fake Foods?"

"I found a jar of peanut butter in her desk!"

"I knew that divorce was too good to last."

How about "How many innocent children have you poisoned today?"

( Natasha O'Brien [ Jacqueline Bisset ] is in Venice, interviewing seafood chef Fausto Zoppi [Stefano Satta Flores]. He has just surreptitiously pinched her rump. )

Natasha: Would you please explain to me what it is about pinching that appeals to Italian men so much?

Zoppi: It's a test to judge quality. You tap a melon, yes? You squeeze a cabbage, yes? ...You pinch a woman!

Natasha: Is that where you put us, Signor Zoppi? Just after cabbages?

Zoppi: Please...call me Fausto!

"Only an amateur would bake anything Swiss in a 450 oven."

"That is the most tasteless, vulgar, and macabre suggestion it has ever been my misfortune to hear. What next, I wonder? The Andes Plane Crash cookbook?"

"I'll go mad."

"What am I running? A magazine or a burial society?"

"At least I do not freeze my chicken livers."

"Dr. Deere, Dr. Sweetheart, Dr. Darling..."

"Why did you have to do it? ... Let her use my kitchen?"

"What a bounder you are."

"You don't have to be able to lay an egg to smell a bad one."

I could go on...

one of my dear favorite movies!

Here are a few of my favorite lines

Auguste: I spit on this pidgeon!
Kohner: You spit on my pidgeon?! I spit on you!

Maximillian: (on the phone to beechum) Miss Beechum I don't pay you enough! How much do I pay you?
(unheard response)
That's enough.

Maximillian: Doctor, deprived of all I love, what makes you think I would want to live?

reply

- "How come the only available bed in this hotel comes with you on it?"
- "There's a convention in town"
- "The Optimists, no doubt"

Bisset was surprisingly good with the comedy in this film.

What is Max's line about his weight -- something about (paraphrasing) how it's taken years and the finest meals to achieve?

Look at him -- sittin' on that stool like he's doin' it a favor.

The only line I can remember off the top of my head is-

Max: "Who is it this time... Aunt Jemima?!"

And the only reason I remember it is because it was in the commercial and cracked me up when I was a wee lad.

I've seen the movie only once on original release. One of those times you show up at a theater with a date and try and pick something not too terrible. I recall it being delightful adult comedy. One scene I remember involved J.B. responding to G.S. : "what would you call it, shorthand?" This clip was shown with J.B.'s appearance I think on the Today Show promoting the movie. When the interviewing host didn't laugh, J.B. urged "it's funny on the screen" I recall.
