Does this movie, like a lot of Altman's stuff, not get its due? What a shame, this is a great ensemble cast and script...

shareI have to disagree. Its a melange of all the scenes ever used in any "bad wedding" or "bad family" movie, sort of ladled together with a heavy hand, and then dropped. Too bad, MASH managed the same sort of melange much more skillfully, but in this case, it just comes off as a poor spoof of wedding movies.
shareThis is one of my favorite movies of all time. I don't know why Altman seems to have fallen out of fashion with film snobs, except that he makes movies that are art yet are actually accessible. No point in bragging about liking Altman because anyone who gives him a chance can "get" his work, so let's all go sit over there and talk about the latest inscrutable downer.
shareI liked it a lot, and have watched it several times.
On the other hand, I can see why it's not all that "commercial." It's light on anything one might really call a "plot" and it lacks classic guy-movie elements (action - other than a pretty snazzy fire - or laugh-out-loud ribald comedy) and also any real chick-flick romantic-comedy element (other than Tulip and big the Palm Beach guy).
