So, how did the rabbit escape from the cat? (spoiler)

During the final conflict, Hazel was caught by the cat. Just as it's about to strike, a voice of a girl is heard and in the final scene, we see Hazel as an old rabbit.
Did I miss a scene, or did they left out a crucial part of the sequence. It is explained in the book just fine (if a bit convenient).

quote:
"Hazel, meanwhile, had had a run-in with a cat in the farmyard and was unable to return to see if his plan to lure the dog onto the Efrafans worked. He is rescued by a young human girl who is the daughter of the farm's owners. She has the local vet who was visiting the farm that day look him over and she and the vet take Hazel by car back to the Down where they release him. Hazel returns to be hailed as Hazel-Rah, Chief Rabbit of the Watership Down warren who through his ingenuity and leadership saved his followers from death."

It seemed clear that the girl rescued him, especially since she got the cat to back off once before. Maybe they were a little too loyal to following the book to show him just running off, but didn't want to go into a vet scene (or maybe that part was cut)...

It's been a long time since I read the book but I was disappointed they didn't include the part where Hazel becomes the only rabbit to go in a hru-du-du. I entirely missed what happened to him. At the end of the movie my wife and I wondered what happened to the rabbit that got caught by the cat.
