Anyone else sees the astonishing resemblance between this and NIMH?

You have to admit that the Bluth's classic does look a bit like a good ripoff of this...
Now, I know that both movies were based on famous children books.
Do you think that Robert C. O'Brien (who wrote and published "Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH" in 1971) and Richard Adams (who wrote and published "Watership Down" in 1972) somehow ripped each other off or that it's just one big glorious happy coincidence?

reply

Yes, one is about a group of intelligent rats on the run from humans, trying to live their life in peace and dealing with inter group tension.

The other is about a group of rabbits travelling to their new home, then going to war against an evil warren in the pursuit of mates.

Now that I've put those summaries side by side, I totally see how they are similar!

Yeah, I have no idea what I was thinking when I wrote that one...

I literally laughed out loud when I read your retraction! It is nice to see someone admit they were mistaken about something.

The only correlation I see between the two films is that the relative success of 'Watership Down' (it was a huge hit in the UK, did well in Europe & did OK in the US) is what allowed Don Bluth to get the funding for 'Secret of Nimh' to be made.
