Has anyone read the novelization of this landmark film? It was published in 1978 and assumedly based on the script. It must have been a different draft of the script because the novelization bears very little resemblance to the film. It's not bad; just very different. For one thing the Bentons live in a townhouse instead of that high-rise apartment.

Yes, strange. Must have been written before the film was made, from an early draft.
Haven't read it in years. I'll give it another go.

Most novelizations are based on earlier drafts of the script, because they have to be completed and ready to be published to coincide with the release of the movie. Sometimes they're published before the movie is even finished.
