Birth Scene

Anyone else bewildered by the scene of the woman giving birth and then feeding her newborn to a freaking crocadile? To me, this was the most random scene in the film. But there seems to be some relationship between the natives and the crocs. They sacrifice/eat a croc earlier in the film. Is this their way of giving back? Thoughts?

Your explanation sounds pretty good. Other explanations could be the tribe may have suspected that something was wrong with the baby (like in Cannibal Holocaust) or the baby could have been conceived through adultery and had to be sacrificed.

I'm all out of plausible explanations.

Those are definite possibilities. It's interesting that Deadato would include scenes with infants in both of these cannibal movies.

Female baby. Males were more useful to the tribe. They only needed a small number of females to reproduce but need males for hunting, heavy work and protection. Female baby seen as worthless/lesser (still is in undeveloped cultures) so thrown in the river.

Ah, that makes a lot of sense. Thanks for clearing that up!

This is the best explanation. I only noticed 3 or 4 women in the whole movie so I guess this tribe didn't see much use in keeping a lot of them around... just more mouths to feed.
