Space Nuts!

I just saw this movie for the first time in about twenty years. It holds up as the most deliriously crazy Star Wars cash-in. Relentlessly entertaining, it is of course cheesy as you would expect, but hot damn if it ain't a great slice of tasty! ...And some of the effects, though dated now, were pretty good for the time it was made. It's way better than "Space War", the other Japanese flick ripping off Lucas, and it's also much more fun than the Italian cash-ins "Star Crash" and "The Humanoid" (although I have a soft spot for the latter and its bizarre Morricone score!).

If you've not seen "Message From Space", hunt it down, go in with no expectations and you'll have a blast. With so many obscure flicks receiving special edition treatment, this mostly undiscovered/underrated gem of Jap-insanity deserves a decent release on DVD or Blu Ray.

There IS a Japanese DVD in anamorphic widescreen, NTSC, (I think region 2 or 4?) But as it is only available in Japan, there is no alternate language track apart from the original Japanese, and no subtitles whatsoever. There is, however a special feature that is in English! ....

There's something wonderful about a storm.

I can see it now, "we need props, someone go out and get a bag of walnuts!"
maybe just poking fun at the industry

Agreed. This film is a lot of fun. I adore the sweet sincerity that pervades throughout.

Hey woody, you changed your profile pic? The other was pretty cool. You're one of those users I seem to bump into everywhere I go. SpookyRat is another everywhere I go. He also has a very unique Profile pic, that really stands out in the list.

It's an actual photo of me at a recent Chiller Con in New Jersey with Jim Wynorski, who I had to frame out of said photo so it could be my profile pic.

I am the Duke of IMDb bio writers! I am A#1!

It's reaaly crazy. I no sooner posted that I see you everywhere. A few hours later I was on the page of some grade Z zombie vampire chick movie, and you had a review of it. If I ever see you and SpookyRat in the same thread, I swear I'm leaving IMDB for good. Because the universe would be collapsing.

I just watched this today for my first time lol so damn funny! It made me think of Star Wars, Buck Rogers, Battlestar Galactica, Flash Gordon and Shogun all rolled into one. It was definitely worth the cheese.

Just saw this on Comet TV. Best film I have seen in a week. I laughed very hard at this slice of Cinematic Cheese- a delight on a cold January night.
