Which is it???

This, I thought was a trifle strange after reading it in the plot summary;

Plot Summary for
Two Worlds of Jennie Logan, The (1979) (TV)
This movie is about a woman who is trying to rebuild her shattered marriage. She and her husband move to an old Victorian style home, where she finds a beautiful dress in the attic, which has a tear in the shoulder. She has the dress repaired. When she tries it on in the restored attic, she suddenly finds herself in another era. This time travel seems to happen whenever she wears the dress. She learns the house was once owned by an artist who died under mysterious circumstances. She meets the artist and eventually falls in love with him. Knowing what she does about his fate, can her love save him and change history?

Summary written by KE Chelsen

This movie is about a bored housewife, who finds a portrait in her attic - of herself! She is drawn to the painting, and winds up traveling back in time to when it was painted, where she falls in love with the artist.

Two somewhat different accounts, not that it makes the movie any less intriguing, just wanted to remark.

"Bored housewife"? Obviously the person writing that response never saw the movie. The first comment was best.

I remember the movie well, She does happen to find a dress in the attic which she does try on. It is not till the end of the movie that her now ex husband finds her pictures, especially of her when she is eighty. She told him before she left to go back to that time indefinitely that she would be holding something like a charm or necklace and it would show him that she was truly happy where and "when" she was. :) I cannot believe I remember this :)

From what I can remember, she says to her husband something like:
"I have to go back, I love him, I want to have his children, I want to grow old with him."
Hubby says something like: "How will I know that you are okay?"
Jenny says: "I will find a way to let you know."

So, when he is moving out after Jenny "Dies" the removalist comes across some paintings stashed behind a cupboard and asks, "What do you want done with these"?
The husbands sees them and the camera focus' on the pendant he had given her when they moved into the house to start a new life after he had cheated on her.
This is where I cry everytime.

I love Johnny Depp

Actually, the paintings were found by the mover in the attic - as I recall an unfinished wall where you could not easily see them. He brought them out and lined them up and the cheating husband got to see her life in the past with the man she loved.

Read the book the movie is based on. It's called "Second Sight" by David Williams, long out of print but maybe you can find a used copy. In the book, Jenny is not a bored housewife at all. She and her husband move into the old house from their home in the city in an attempt to save their marriage after he cheats on her.

Yes, another book with the same title keeps popping up when I search too. Make sure you use "David Williams," the author's name with your search. The book was printed in 1977.

The book is very expensive on all the websites to find used books and even on Ebay. I have seen prices from $75.00 to $200.00. Luckily, I was able to borrow it from the central library, which had a copy.

You can buy it on Amazon for 14.40 in paperback. It's been reprinted.

reply

The first review, definitely. Jennie is not a bored housewife, she is an angry housewife because her husband banged one of his students.
