Where's Raj's father in the whole situation?

It's is clear as daylight that Raj's prestige and wealth-hungry mother was not widowed, since she was wearing colorful saris. (Kamini wears white at the end of the movie after Raj dies.) So the question is where was the father? Why wasn't he there to give his opinion?
