The featurette on the DVD

The featurette on the DVD is actually a lot better than the film itself. It's only 22 minutes long (it was shot for broadcast TV), and it's funnier and snappier than the actual film. Watching Irwin Allen be "Mr. Auteur" is funny, as he comes across as so self important, and listening to the cast swear that "the bees are coming!" and that the film is based on fact is hilarious too.

I'm still waiting for the bees to come and wipe us all out. I still have the protective gear and flamethrower I bought in the 1970's for the day of reckoning with the killer bees. I'm also waiting for California to fall into the ocean and Russia to invade the US (two more 70's whoppers which never happened).
