If you look up the keywords for The Swarm (1978) http://akas.imdb.com/title/tt0078350/keywords then you'll see among others these two keywords for the film:
killer-bee http://akas.imdb.com/List?tv=on&&keywords=killer-bee&&heading=19;killer-bee
&
bee-attack http://akas.imdb.com/List?tv=on&&keywords=bee-attack&&heading=19;bee-attack

As you can see there are actually many films with or about killer bees

There was TV movie the same year this came out it starred Kate Jackson and Eddie Albert. It was called Killer Bees.

Completely unrelated, but there's a Craig Sheffer, Gabriel Anwar and Rutger Hauer film called 'Flying Virus' that's about a swarm of 'killer bees' infected with a pathological agent being released on a commerical airliner.

It makes 'The Swarm' look like the greatest film ever made :P, and I don't recommend it. To anyone.

Re you not thinking of Phase IV which was a very creepy movie about ants and came out a couple of years before The Swarm?

reply

Yeah, it was called "Killer Bees" released in 1974 starring edward albert and kate jackson.

You should also check out THE SAVAGE BEES - which is genuinely scary in places, made in 1976 and WAY better than THE SWARM. Especially with the woman trapped in her VW Bug and being sent through New Orleans to the Superdome.

As for FLYING VIRUS, what a load of dreck. Real RIFFTRAX gold there. Now one has to ask didn't this inspire SNAKES ON A PLANE in some ways?!
