Nifty interview. It's regrettable that Mank didn't discuss his unfilmed script for Superman V, in which Chris Reeve was going to reprise his role, despite being paralyzed from the neck down. This being the 90s(when CGI was still in it's infancy), the producers had planned to have orthopedic surgeons drill holes into Reeve + attach wires to all of his limbs, so that he could be artificially stood up and made to appear as if he was just as mobile as he was in all the prior films. A maxiofacial surgeon was to perform a similar operation on Reeve's jaw and mouth, so that whenever he was required to "speak" a line of dialogue, a prop man off-camera could manipulate CR's face as a ventrifqulist might manipulate a puppet. A voice artist who was capable of mimicking Reeve's pre-accident voice had been contract to actually speak the lines, which would be added in via dub during post-production

Superman V would've been a novelty if nothing else, had it come to fruition back in the 90s, even if it would also almost certainly be declared an affront to our Woke sensibilities
