I haven't seen the theatrical version in several years.

For as long as I've watched DVDs (started watching them in 2003 when a cousin gave my family a DVD Player) I have only watched the extended cut of Superman. In fact, I can't ever remember watching the original cut since the 90s when people used VHS tapes. I remember renting Superman 1 with Christopher Reeve on DVD for the first time at Blockbuster and it was the extended cut.

I know cause there was all these scenes that weren't in the original. Like Lois Lane as a little girl on the train seeing young highschool Clark outrun the train. Then Lois telling her mom what she saw and she doesn't believe her. And the scene where the guys with guns try to shoot Superman to death and he stops them easily. And of course the scene where Superman walks through Lex Luthor's traps before entering his secret hideout. I later bought it on DVD and it was still the same extended cut. Even the Bluray only has the extended 2 and a half hour cut. I am not even sure you can get the theatrical cut on DVD or Bluray. I can barely remember the theatrical cut.

The four-disc special edition DVD set has the theatrical version on the first disc.

reply

I know but I hate Superman 3 and therefore won't buy it.

reply

Agreed.

Only I & II were watchable.

But for some reason I can’t forget how enjoyable Gene Hackman was to watch in the abominable Superman IV.

God bless him.

reply

No no, not the set that has all four movies... I meant the special set with four discs related only to the first movie.
Disc 1 has the theatrical version. Disc 2 has the extended version from 2000. And the other discs have "making of" features, cartoons, etc.

I really don't want to spend the money since I just spent quite a bit on the bluray that has the extended TV cut of Superman 1.

reply

Okay then.
