Well worth your time watching on YouTube

Someone out there was kind enough to post the entire movie, SUMMER OF MY GERMAN SOLDIER (1978) on YouTube in ten minute segments. Thank you.

Does anyone else out there feel uncomfortable with the age difference between 12-year old Patty Bergan and German POW, Anton, who must have been between 20 and 24 in the movie and the book? All these decades, I had assumed Patty was 15 or 16 years old, possibly 17. Sure, she's still a minor, but there's a big difference between a 16 year old teenager falling in love with a young man versus a 12 year old kid. I don't know why the book's author made the girl so young. It would have been more credible if Patty was say, 16 or 17. Also, the film's director was wise enough to omit any overt sexuality between Patty and Anton. Patty gets to say how much she loves Anton, to his face, several times, however. Nonetheless, I noticed from reading all the comments on all the ten minute YouTube segments that no one had any objections to the age difference. I think most viewers were caught up in the heartbreaking drama of the movie. I can see why because of all the crap that Patty Bergan has to endure throughout the movie. In its essence, the movie is a true, genuine tear-jerking chick flick for every woman and girl who's seen it. Every woman remembers what it was like to be 12 years old and experiencing the first stirrings of womanhood and the beginnings of attraction for the oppositie sex. Guys who can feel sympathy and pity for the underdog and the downtrodden will enjoy this movie too, because that's the lot of Patty Bergan. She has to put up with a lot of crap in her still short 12 years, all the way to listening to the f-cked up explanation and confession from her mental father as to why he never loved her and never will. Then the psycho dad adds his final loving touch, that he legally cannot get rid of her therefore she will remain in the house until she's old enough to leave at age 18, but in the meantime, she's dead to him. Yeah sure, have a nice f---ing day, too, dad. You've got to watch the movie. It's well worth your time.
