Based on a NOVEL?
Hard to believe this plotless, pointless piece of piffle was based on a whole book. Did Jackie Collins write it on a cocktail napkin, with room left over for Tony's number?

shareI saw the novel in a used book store a while ago. It's very thin for a popular novel, about half the normal size. I was thinking of buying it, but was too embarassed to bring it to the cashier. :)
shareMaybe if you were buying some self-help books and pulpy novels along with "The Stud," you would have been less embarrassed. ;-)
shareI know what you mean...The Great Gatsby and The Stud.
shareIt's even harder to believe that this was such a box office hit, the same year Alien and Midnight Express came out.
shareWas this really a hit? I seem to remember this only from cable, not in theaters. And it was a year before "Alien."
shareYes, "The Stud" was a big hit, especially in the UK. The 70's were such a different time..
"IMdB; where 14 year olds can act like jaded 40 year old critics...'
The '70s were indeed a different time, a much better time in my opinion. I don't remember this playing "across the pond," but it was on pay cable quite a bit late at night.
shareIt was a very British piece of sexploitation and, remember, we were denied porn at the time: this was the nearest thing we had.
shareSo this was the closest Britain came to porn in the '70s? Weren't skin mags (and more) available elsewhere? I guess you takes it where you gets it (so to speak)!
shareThis was about as racy as it got on screen. Yes, there were nudie mags, but it was all pretty tame. The USA had Deep Throat kicking hard porn off several years earlier. We had The Stud.
shareTough times, those '70s. But what you lacked in porn, you more than made up for in rock 'n' roll (Bowie, Zep and Floyd – just for starters). I'd say it was a fair tradeoff.
