Let us not be hypocrites ...

... do we want aggressive Parole Officers or not?
Hey, seems all the POs on Law and Order like to sit around on their butts.

I don't think it's inconsistent for the citizenry to want tough PO's in real life, but to also think that the PO in this film was an a-hole in unnecessary and counterproductive ways. Think about it. If he was a bit more fair with Dembo and did a better job of keeping him on the straight and narrow, then it would've spared the life of one cop, one painting contractor, and one junkie father.

Max was responsible for those deaths. Sure, the PO may not been supportive, but Max could have thrown in the towel on the whole parole thing without causing three deaths and committing murder. If anything, Max's increasingly violent actions backed up the PO's assessment of him. Ex-cons who are truly trying to go straight don't just pop their corks like that.

Chicken and egg situation...

Amen, leopard. Dembo was a moron. He caused three deaths, and threw away a chance to lead a normal life just because his PO messed with him a little. Idiot.

And btw, this was a mediocre film. BUMP.
