I love Theresa Russel in "Straight Time". Can't take my eyes off of her. She matches Dustin smoke for smoke. He even bums cigarettes from her. So cool, a Seventies cool that people today do not either remember or never experienced.
shareexactly. i had a hard time taking my eyes off of her because she's so beautiful. but no, she wasn't unshakably hypnotic because of her acting or even her looks because dustin hoffman was so great in this film that he was the person i was looking at and staring at most of this film.
beauty in her case is like a drug. it draws you in, especially when it comes to girls and women. it sucks you in and won't ever let go. but when watching a film there are things that are more important and absorbing than just looks. for you to say she matches him in acting is really wrong. she's not half the actor he is.
She never really got that big hit film that would elevate her.

Oh I don't know, lack of talent maybe? This is the only film I've ever seen her in, and she was very wooden. And btw that was one of the most awkward seduction scenes I've ever seen. They just stared at each other for what seemed like two minutes. I wondered how they kept from bursting out laughing, since I was about to. They probably had to shoot the scene 10 times.

I did see some comment about how she was not popular for some reason. I agree that some might say wooden but how is that different to say Bette Davis Lauren Bacall and all that crowd. I only remember that seeing her in a movie long ago with Burt Reynolds PHYSICAL EVIDENCE I fell in love with the shape of her legs for some reason. Boobs are of no great interest as they can be filled with stuff. She does have a long CV of parts but yes she did not make that star status breakthrough. Who knows if there is an underlying casting reason? I just remember reading somewhere that there was a bit of shunning. I cannot believe that the producers and director types have always that much interest in the acting ability or not considering the amount of poor acting around. think of the negative critical comments surrounding the likes of Nicholas Cage or Keannu Reeves.
I feel that she is a REAL woman. Still.
what negative critical comments have there been about nicolas cage? i just think every good actor has their time to be popular and successful. i mean as great of an actor as john cusack is where is he now? you can take all the above average actors and see that they only had about 10 great years in movies.

shareI'd never heard of her before this film and she's DAMN good in it. Even better than Dustin I'd say. She's just so natural. Very impressive, especially being that it was only her second movie ever.
