I recommend movies like Heat,Score,The Bank Job and The Italian Job(the 1969 version not the remake).

Who on Earth could that be ?

reply

Thanks but no, I mean realistic movies about bank robbers thives junkies, if from the 70's even better. Movies that reflects the life outlaws delinquent's, real street life.

reply

You should check out Thief with James Caan.

reply

Thieves Like Us is a great movie,The Driver with Ryan O'Neal also deals with the lives of thieves and Bonnie and Clyde is another classic movie that you must check out.As pupkin81-1 said earlier Thief starring James Caan is a must watch if you liked Straight time.

Who on Earth could that be ?

reply

I would say The Getaway from Peckinpah

hea tis a good film, and there is a subplot that mirrors straight time. in fact, michael mann wrote the first draft of straight time. edward bunker, the author of no beast so fierce, which straight time adapts was the technical advisor for heat also

Time is Luck. Luck ran out.

Here you go.

Fingers (1978, Harvey Keitel) About the son of a loan shark that is trying to
it as a professional pianist.

The Gambler (1974, James Caan) About a gambler going down the drain. This one is
so so.

reply

kitie7-Yep the Robert Altman movie starring Keith Carradine and Shelly Duvall.

Who on Earth could that be ?

reply

Love "Fingers". Like "Straight Time", It tries to be at bar with "Taxi Driver".

reply

Try "The Panic in Needle Park" with Al Pacino. As far as I can tell, it's about as close as you get to gritty, 70s New York City without a time machine.

Like "Straight Time" it was also long out of print and didn't get a DVD release until fairly recently.

reply

"The Friends of Eddie Coyle", IMO the ultimate 70's criminal movie, told from the criminals point of view. Realism at it's best! If you love "Straight Time", you should enjoy this movie.

reply

"Raising Arizona" with Nicholas Cage. it's a comedy with plot and character similarities. in fact, i wouldn't be surprised if "Straight Time"' sort of inspired the writers for that movie.

reply

Eh!!!...'Straight Time' is not about a couple stealing a baby!!!!

reply

yes i know that. of course the baby stealing part is what made the film original. i was saying that the style and character and parts of the plot were an inspiration to the movie Raising Arizona. watch them both again and see for yourself. especially the character of H.I. his life of recidivism.

reply

If you like Bunker's work you might want to see "Animal Factory" or "Runaway Train".

The Anderson Tapes -- Early non-Bond Connery.

Those two were terrible movies^

reply

Check out Blue Collar, with Harvey Keitel.

reply

Brian De Palma's "Carlito's way".

reply

You like gritty New York films? From the cops' perspective "The French Connection" from 1971 is a real picture like "Straight Time". William Friedkin = Genius!

Dog Day Afternoon

This movie has reminded me a lot of Malick's Badlands.

there's a highway that is curling up like smoke above his shoulder
