Question about its Aspect Ratio

The film is presented in widescreen on DVD (thanks Warner Bros.!!) BUT I know that it's also a 1978 made-for-tv film. I know all of these types of films that were made prior to HD were all academy-standard (1.33:1)... so, was this movie originally set for theaters, but played on TV instead... or has the film been incorrectly matted for DVD (looks good to me)?

Dear blackcauldron: HI. It's possible SOMEONE'S WATCHING ME! could have played theatrically overseas. There have been some U.S. TV movies that have played in theaters in the UK. In that case, a W I D E S C R E E N DVD release wouldn't be missing picture information.

If it didn't play overseas in theaters -- it beats the hell outta me how Warner Bros. could release a W/S DVD of this telefilm without chopping off the top and bottom of the picture.

Hmm . . .

>>> By the way, bc, what other Fotomat's besides AMERICAN HOT WAX have you got? I've got 22 Fotomat titles in my collection.

If you want a list of the ones I have just drop me a line.

I was wondering that also. Could it be that Carpenter shot this in widescreen and then sold it as a TV movie? It's very good, but it is kind of "TV movieish" and has breaks where commercials would go. It doesn't seem to me like it was cropped from fullscreen to widescreen.

No it was definitely bankrolled by a U.S. TV network but Carpenter could have framed the shots with widescreen in mind for a possible theatrical release overseas.
