Author's other stories

The author of The Small One, Charles Tazewell, also wrote The Littlest Angel which was filmed at least 3 times, made into radio plays, amateur theatrics, and into a song sung by Bing Crosby. A lesser known book by Tazewell, although it won the Thomas Edison prize for best children's story in 1956, is The Litlest Snowman. This was filmed also, but would be impossible to research in books or on the internet. It's part of the short live action/animatronic movie entitled, Christmas Fairy Tale(1960) found on Youtube. It's not really a Christmas story, but has a Christmas setting, and starts midway through the 12 minute movie. If you like The Small One, or The Littlest Angel, you'll like The Littlest Snowman as well!

Yes that's it, although not the complete version, running 9 minutes 54 seconds, as opposed to the 2nd version with a time of 11:09. That one is, www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmVcT04Au78. It's interesting to note that the "Disney" book version of The Small One is written by Alex Walsh. I just was looking at it in a thrift shop today and had a hard time finding Tazewell's name. Even on the internet, all the credit is given to Alex Walsh. I was starting to doubt that Tazewell had anything to do with it but if you watch The Small One on Youtube you do see the credit given to Tazewell. Getting back to the book, the author of the original story is listed, but not on the title-author page where it should be, but on the copyright page, on the bottom, and in small print. Better had it been, Charles Tazewell's The Small One , adapted by Alex Walsh.

Hope this reply is a little speedier for you! The video is available, and the easiest way to get to it is to just go to Youtube's homepage, type in Christmas Fairy Tale in the search space, and number eight among the results is the one you're looking for. I recently read that The Litlest Snowman was read annually on the Captain Kangaroo TV series. I wonder if others remember that.
