Hysterical and nostalgic ... I LOVE SLITHIS!

I saw this as a kid when it came out. My Mom took me, as it was written in her "Mom Contract" that you "have to take your son to anything sci-fi or horror that is rated PG." This movie scared the pants off of me.

To an 8-year-old, it was very grisly and bloody. The old couple who gets killed is still pretty graphic ... I mean, the poor woman's whole face is eaten off and you can see her skull and teeth underneath! I was in horror for the rest of the film, so when the guy gets bitten in the stomach near the end, it seemed far more explicit than it really was. I also recall that the "scientist's" melted face (from nuclear pollution I guess) seemed "really scary and realistic." And let's not forget the slow-motion reveal of the girl's breasts at the end ... Wow. I felt like I was in a GROWNUPS MOVIE.

Of course now, the whole affair is laughable. About the only thing that holds up is the fleeting shot of the dead old couple; everything else is laughably dire and silly. The acting and staging are so inept that the film is rendered virtually abstract and absurdist. WHY do we see the "fat kid" at the beginning running in slow motion? WHAT is the deal with that crazy guy's "acting style" in the police station? WHO designed the melted-face makeup, and did they just pour baby food on the guy's cheeks or what?

Oh yeah ... COOL POSTER, THOUGH. Might very well tie with Eastwood's THE GAUNTLET as a movie that can't possibly live up to its amazing one sheet.

I actually think "The Gauntlet" live up to its poster. As for "Slithis" – close but no cigar.

This film is indeed laughable, but it's the stuff that nightmares were made of to young 'uns in the '70s who managed to see it at a drive-in with an older brother or whatnot. I can't say this is a good movie, but it's an extremely entertaining one, and anything that can make me care for 90 minutes is worth 6/10 at the very least.

Its pretty awesome for someone to reply to a post I made 5 years ago! SLITHIS FOREVER! Hahaha!

Glad to see you're still around, Roybatty-1! Movement is pretty gradual on some of these boards.

"Slithis" forever indeed. Keep on watching those wonderful, weird relics of a better era for movies.
