Does anyone know what the original aspect ratio was? I have the Rhino DVD, which looks like a barely adequate transfer of a VHS tape. Was this in widescreen? I'd love to see a better DVD of this.
1.85:1 was the original ratio, though the film was shot open-matte. For those who don't know what this means, the widescreen version (released by Scorpion in 2011) is how the movie was intended to be framed, and this version looks better (more like a theatrical film than a TV movie) on a wide-screen TV. The full-screen version (first released by Rhino, re-released in 2011 by Mill Creek in a cheapo boxed set called "Dangerous Babes") features slightly more picture on the top and bottom that was captured on the 1.33:1 negative.
Allegedly there was some sort of screw-up with the transfer of the Rhino DVD, which is fuzzy, washed out and thoroughly abysmal quality. If you're a fan of the film, do yourself a favor and pick up one of the subsequent releases.
