I have loved this soundtrack fro over 20 years, and despite searching for the film over the same time - I have rarely even found record that it existed. I have never met anyone that has seen it.
If you know a way or place to see this please let me know.
Hello - I'm with you - this has been one of my favorite albums since it first came out all those years ago. And I have in fact seen it once - on some cable channel several years ago. Unfortunately, I found the film quite dull and barely watchable. In fact, the only part I really remember at all was the one scene that used the instrumental version of "send one your love". It was at a garden party - otherwise, the film left no impression on me at all. Quite the letdown........
I saw the film in 79 in it's first release. Since that time I have Never seen it again. This is a shame because the film is awesome, not to mention the music !! I have not been able to find the film anywhere. I have tried many times to order it or track it down somehow, but there seems to be some kind of (dare i say it) conspiracy ,or money, contract, royalty, you can't have it if I can't, whatever going on, so I guess until whatever it is gets settled, it may not surface again. what a shame!!! Maybe we should all band together and see if we can make something happen. At least try and find out what is keeping this great film away from it's legions of image starved fans!
My fiance echoes your sentiment for this film, and he, like you, has tried to find a copy of it to no avail. I did a google search, and found the contact information for the director's agent. My plan is to write to him and see what I can find out. What a great gift this would be!
Perhaps it's a bit late to mention this, but the Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville, NY, did a one-off screening of this (a rare 35mm print) in 2002.
As prints seem to exist, if you're really itching to see this, you could fourwall a cinema auditorium and rent the film, and it will probably cost you a total of approximately $1000. It may sound like I'm being a wiseass, but quite the contrary; if I had the dough, I'd glad drop a grand to see a rare 35mm or 70mm print of something I badly wanted to see. Heck, if people are spending close to that amount on washed-out, green-tinged prints of Salò on out-of-print Criterion DVDs, it's hardly ridiculous to pay the same to have a proper cinema experience.
I've been looking for this film for years as well. You are the first person I know who has confirmed a fairly recent existence of an actual print of the film. Now if ONLY you could tell me who has the print, it might be possible to negotiate rights. Finding the print has been the major obstacle. I'll also contact the Jacob Burns Film Center to see if anyone there has a clue where they got this print.
