the original scared straight inmates?

does anyone know what happened to the original 8 or so inmates from the first scared straight? i think it would be real interesting to know how many are still alive. how many eventually were released and if they made a decent life for themselves? how many stayed in prison and/or met an unfortunate fate? anyone know anything?

There's a version of Scared Straight hosted by Danny Glover, taped in the late 1990s. Scared Straight! 20 Years Later http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0196074/

It gives an update on both some of the kids and some of the inmates. The kind of sad part is how many had jobs in industries that had a lot of layoffs. I wished someone did a 30 years later version.

the guy who "got so much time they can't GIVE me anymore" ?Dominic WAS released but Died of AIDS just three years later?? Couldn't have been IV drug abuse Unless he shot up in prison (Happens). HE must have been putting out in Rahway.

An update from 1978 would be interesting. The living inmates would probably be senior citizens, retirement age.

The living kids would be around 50 years old, middle aged. Maybe even with grown up children and grandkids. We'd know by now if they turned into full time criminals or went straight.

I know Thats what i was thinking when i watched it the other day again.i wish they would but i doubt they will ever. The one gy ,forget his name he seemed like the very one that would go straight out of all of them and he ended up killing a girl getting slick a way with it till he got busted for shoplifting and DNA got him.

What a tragic ending. Both for the young woman who got murdered. And for the Scared Straight kid who didn't take advantage of his second chance.

I guess some folks really have a date with (negative) destiny.

The version Netflix has includes the 20-year update. It's very positive overall, I think. Many of the inmates are out of prison and leading good lives, as are most of the kids who went there. There are a few sad stories- some of the inmates were released only to OD or die of AIDS, and some went right back to prison. The program is still going on.

I dont Know what happened to the 8 original Teens that were aired on Scared Straight 78 But I know they made 5 different videos and Aired only one.
in 1978 I was 16 and was living in a Program called Jcap in South Jamaica Queens New York. I really didnt think I had a problem. Anyway they elected to send me and a few other teens down to Rahway State prison in Jersey, we were told we might be on tv so it seemed a little exciting!

I remember walking through the Prison seeing some of the inmates in there cells locked down looking at us as we walked through to the Autitorium were they made us sit on a bench and started yelling at us and telling us to take off our sneakers and throw them. these guys were scarey they were screaming at us literally right in our faces screaming spit coming out of one of the Inmates face as he was yelling at me. I remember thinking to myself these guys have nothing to lose and there lives are pretty much screwed.

The Scared Straight Program seemed to come a long way (God Bless) there is a lot more interaction positive and negative.
I am doing well know.. Not in Jail... Still Alive and working as a loan Officer In Upstate New York.

I am on the one of the Videos that never Aired so if anyone Knows were those Videos are let me know.. It would be kind of kool to see it 35 years later.

One of the kids, Angelo, who claimed "the worst thing I did was robbed a store..." was convicted of murder in 2010 and is now serving a sentence for that crime. Seems it didn't help him like he said it did.
