Best Line?

It's been years since I have seen this movie, but I remember it fondly. I remember being just whiplashed in the sequence where Alda shows up as a bitter anti-war type. Burstyn presses and presses him about why he has changed into a cynical bitter bastard, and he puts her off and puts her off. Finally, the dam breaks, and he tells her, "Because Michael is dead!" That one line, delivered by an actor I normally don't like, still gives me the shivers as I write it. Alda delivered that simple declarative sentence with all of the agony, anger, hurt, and rage that I can imagine any man who loses his son would feel.

When George got excited just touching Doris on the couch when she was 8 months pregnant.
George freaking out about the baby.
George having sympathy pains.
Doris' line, "George, I'm scared." and alpha-male comes to the top again and "WE are going to have a baby!"

And I LOVED LOVED lOVED that Sandy was 87 years old!!!!!!!!!!!! and that George came back in and resumed their affair.

And yes, I loved it when George cracked and said that Michael was killed. He finally cried, which was extremely healthy.

I think her name was Connie, not Sandy.

Best line: "He wrote in great comic detail about his unfortunate tendency to get an erection on all forms of public transportation. The school almost suspended him!"
