Dreyfuss is 100% convinced that Maria Gambrelli is the killer, Clouseau keeps releasing her from prison because he is convinced she is innocent.
Dreyfuss gets convinced that Clouseau is a complete idiot and when he then gets more and more reports about Clouseau and what he is doing, Dreyfuss drives him self in to insanity and deep hatred towards Clouseau, where he ends up trying to blow up Clouseau, but instead blows up the entire Ballon family.
Clouseau might be a huge klutz, but in reality he was not responsible for getting Dreyfuss to hate him.
