Question about the ending (SPOILER)

I didn't get an impression that anybody would shoot anybody. But the ending sure was a bit sudden. I expected she would attempt to start a life with her former husband or go to his new wife and attempt to kill her or something. But instead she just stole 600 dollars from him, in addition to messing his marriage up somewhat (but not too seriously). All of us who have seen Fatal Attraction probably expected some violent showdown, which would either kill Emily or leave her husband's life totally in ruins. Instead, the movie ended relatively mellow. Which is fine by me, it was a good movie.

My impression was that Chaplin seduced Neil with the promis of a new start after his relationship with barbera falls apart. She then gets him drunk, steals his credit card, goes on a shopping spree and gets out of town. Before leaving she gives pike the keys to her apartment so he can lock it up. Nobody dies, I think it just shows that Neil is oblivious to the whole thing since he's just sitting there watching TV as his wife ditches him.
