The Greatest Kung Fu Movie Ever

This film is great - theres action and comedy all rolled into one. I rate this film very highly

I love this film too. Not sure whether I would call it the greatest KF movie of all time though!

However, the Tonfa Vs Staff fight (JC taking on all the monks) is in my opinion one of the greatest fights.

when i was little this was the greatest movie ever made.

Damn, I was looking to find this film here, it is the worst film I have ever seen, I rented it about 15 years ago as I'm a chan fan, utter crap.
Worst chan film ever, filmed so soon after the classic drunken master too.

reply

Actually, it was filmed a few years before Drunken Master, but wasn't released until afterwards...

reply

Do you really think it's his worst? To be honest I like all his films, I'm too biased and blinkered when it comes to JC so forgive me for jumping in here. I mentioned it's not his greatest earlier in this thread, but to say a film is his worst when it has the stunning tonfa v staff fight seems a bit off to me! But hey, this site is all about sharing personal opinions, whether we agree or not!!

Dude you are either are troll or retarted

This is one of the most amazing films EVER both in acting, story telling, and kungfu choreography EVER!!

I love it as a chinese person, comedy lover and most of all AND SPECIFICALLY.....i love it as a martial artist enthusiast

You must be f*king retarted to hate this, or you watched the stupid dubbed english version with pointless inaccurate sloppy 'whocares' type of translations. Worse if dubbed by the UK as it sounds like a 60's english bus driver. Sometime I think I'm the ONLY person in the world who can translate english to cantonese and vise versa properly (as even HK movies famously adds english with chinese subtitles in there films, and I feel the english translation aren't as well as it could be there aswell)

FIGHTING CHOREOGRAPHYIn this you see the "7 deadly fist" style and its main concept its trying to tell the audience, what do i mean? as a martial artists I can tell its a deadkt art style EVEN if its very basic in punching i.e straight punches, yet its deadly as it goes for the pressure points and the weakness of the body.

Watch jackie as he gets struck in the throat, the chest and so on and so forth. His 5 style fist (which is the proper translation not 'ESSENCE OF 5 FISTS' is so fast and fluid esspecially snake, where at the end (even though I don't practice it) a move is where two hands are facing infront of each other is great to hide the true intentions of the next move..truly AMAZING

STORY WRITING focusing on the creator creation and directing, the female is both super cute but also talented. She fits well in the film. How many stupid white people like hollywood have you seen great REAL female fighters? probably hire some stupid cameron diaz eg charlies angels, pay them millions and pump out rubbish.

CAMERA SHOTS better then any stupid western director, see the simple shots where jackie deliberately guides the girls fists towards the camera so it makes the audience part of the film, personalizing the film like this is genius

This movie is also funny my mother as a chinese women laughed herself silly, a old school film they just don't make anymore and i played the movie in march 2012

"one of the most amazing films EVER both in acting"

acting? come on.

I can't decide if you're troll or you're serious...

its the best KF movie of all time trust me

at least about asian arts it is

reply

It had some cool fight scenes but the 5 ghosts was so lame, couldn't they come up with a better idea? They destroyed the movie...

reply

It's a comedy. I mean ,duh, it stars Jacky Chan. As far as him having a bad movie, I remember that I saw a movie, The Killer Meteors, where he played a bad guy. I don't know how bad it was to mje then, but it's rated pretty low here. What about Snake and Crane Arts of Shaolin? Anybody love that movie?

reply

Snake & Crane: Arts of Shaolin is a great movie. Not watched it for a while, but I remember thinking it had some excellent moves from JC.

Yeah Snake & Crane Arts was the best film he made for Lo Wei films after Fearless Hyena, actually it is probably on a par with it, terrific film

reply

Yeah, Snake & Crane is an all-time favorite of mine. A very well made old school kungfu movie.
