Influence on Rushmore

Just saw this for the first time and wondered if it's an influence on Rushmore.The kid in this is smart and self-assured just like Max in Rushmore and the humour is dry and subtle like Wes Anderson (and his other influence,Hal Ashby).Any thoughts ?
