The piranhas weren't the only thing at the base...

Did anyone ever see the mutant running around the lab while the two lead characters were snooping around? Ever since I was a kid I loved that little layer in the story. That much worse things were going on at that military lab. That creeped the hell out of me.

Love the movie...

I watched this for the first time yesterday and I did notice that thing. The scientist must have been up to same crazy crap there.

HAHAHA. I saw that weird thing too. Its all cheesy and stuff but then most special effects from the 70s are with a few exceptions. I wondered what the heck that thing was myself. That guy was DEFINITELY into some strange stuff in that lab. What a weirdo!

hey im new here from imdb but i just read you message about the movie. is funny how you actuly notice that part in the movie but did you you that they are doing a remake on the movie which i hope it dosen't suck because this movie surposely is coming out this year. please e-mail me back you seem to know alot about your horror movies.

reply

this would be the second remake. The first remake came out in the 90s i think. some things were changed like the Dr was a woman for example.

As far as the creature walkin around the lab, it was probably some experiment to make fish (piranha) able to go on land.

Thedarkestshadow81 is correct. He is referring to the remake coming out in 2008. http://www.upcominghorrormovies.com/movies/piranha.php

Um, I think thedarkestshadow81 was responding to the person just before him/her who mentioned a remake coming out soon. Read the thread.

Never ask me how I'm doing.

I agree with you andresfprieto, they were creapy at the time, I always thought the music to this movie wass real creapy too, theres a few times also where you could easily shout at the screan "get the f$%£ out of the water!!", thats what makes it a good film, not the special effects.

When I watched the film last night I thought it looked like the Ymir in Ray Harryhausen's 20 Million Miles to Earth. Harryhausen made a special appearance at the AFI in DC in the early 80's, but I was unable to see him because I had taken a job as a field auditor for DOE.

Thanks for the extra information. Harryhaused made a special appearance at the AFI in DC about 1980-1. Unfortunately I had gone to work as a field auditor for the Energy Dept.

I also have Corman's autobiography in which he says he was given a test for vocational aptitude and scored 99% in nine of ten categories which the counselor couldn't believe. What was the tenth category? Finance and Accounting in which he scored 10%. She advised him to never go into any of those jobs. Corman said he was probably the only producer in Hollywood who knew nothing about financing his own pictures. Very entertaining book with contributions from Nicholson, Coppola and others who got their break in his movies.

Great answer, thanks. That makes sense I guess and he totally looks like that Ymir. I just thought it was so cool to have that feeling of other monstrosities lurking around that lab.

Thanks again

BTW, any sources for the info? Just curious.

I will pick it up. Again thanks!

The lizard creature was Dante's homage to a 1950s movie, 20000 miles to Earth, I think. The creature was supposed to keep re-appearing throughout the movie, getting bigger each time. At the film's climax, it was going to be shown attacking people, but the budget ran out. They should have saved some money not having to buy bras for any of the female characters, but there ya go.
